February 2022

Terminator 2 (1991) — Classic!

Deep House (2022) — Major missed opportunity.  The girl is stunningly beautiful, and the guy is Mick Jagger’s son.  So let’s hide their faces in SCUBA gear for over an hour.  Still, great concept and visuals.

Final Destination 5 (2011) — Always fun.  I don’t care what anyone says.  About anything.

Turbulence (1997) — Die Hard on a plane.  In other words, Executive Decision.

Rituals (1977) — Wait 4 years and see the suspiciously similar, but vastly superior Southern Comfort (1981).

Free Guy (2021) — Exceeded all expectations.

No Exit (2022) — Total waste of Dennis Haysbert, but otherwise a fine twisty way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Passengers (2016) — Not nearly as awful as everyone said.

Island in the Sky (1953) — The Duke lost in the frozen north.  No surprises, none needed.

The Girl (2012) — Biopic of Alfred Hitchcock in which he is so repulsive, he makes the real Alfred Hitchcock look like Brad Pitt.  Sienna Miller is so beautiful she makes her real-life counter-part, Tippi Hedren, also look like Brad Pitt.

Johnny Guitar (1954) — Why was Sterling Hayden a star?

Murderville Season 1 (2002) — Actors who are not the improv kings they think they are.  I actually liked the Encyclopedia Brown aspect of the show better than the gimmick.

Trapped (1949) — Why was Lloyd Bridges a star?

Reacher Season 1 (2022) — Great action, cute blonde.  What else do you need?  But this dude, as in the books, is a 6’5″ gorilla.  Why do people keep picking fights with him?

After Life Season 3 (2022) — Should have pulled the plug after 2 fine seasons.

Moonfall (2022) — Dreadful.

Something’s Gotta Give (2003) — Jack Nicholson is mind-bendingly nauseating as the old dude in this rom-com.

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) — Benedict Cumberbatch might have been tolerable if not compounded by presence of Peter Weller.  Sorry Robo-Cop fanboys — worst actor ever!

Private Property (1960) — Good squirmy B&W tale of old horny California.

Countdown (2019) — Surprisingly good take on The Ring, but with phones. So, call it the Ringtone, I guess

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022) — Good, but not nearly as clever as it wants you to think it is.
